Happy Birthday to the Lincolnshire Wolds!

During 2023, the Lincolnshire Wolds is celebrating its 50th anniversary as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and it’s an ideal opportunity to discover more about this protected, living, working and thriving landscape!

The 50th Anniversary is a chance to celebrate all that has been achieved in working to protect and enhance the Lincolnshire Wolds, it’s habitats and physical features, it’s heritage, culture, communities and management.

The Lincolnshire Wolds Chair – Councillor Richard Avison says “The beauty of our landscape has brought a real joy throughout recent trying times for everyone and reinvigorated the nation’s interest in our countryside. Harnessing that interest along with Government initiatives will provide an ideal opportunity to promote and celebrate our Lincolnshire Wolds AONB 50th anniversary. We look forward to seeing you at the forthcoming events, come along and enjoy a part of the countryside which we proudly represent”.

The care of the AONB has been entrusted to the local authorities, organisations, community groups and those who live and work in the area. Much of the Wolds is in private ownership, with few publicly owned and managed sites. Partners, communities and individual landowners, particularly farmers and land managers, have a crucial role to play in continuing to safeguard this unique landscape.

In recognition of this landmark jubilee, the Lincolnshire Wolds Countryside Service, the Lincolnshire Chalk Stream Project and the AONB Farming in Protected Landscapes network have worked with partners to coordinate a series of events to showcase, promote and engage with people who live, work and visit the Lincolnshire Wolds. From walks and talks to practical tasks, we hope there is something for everyone, to acknowledge, celebrate and enjoy the AONB – a one-off special newsletter will be available from April, with the programme of events running from April through to December - in fact 50 events for 50 years!

We invite you to join in with our events and welcome any donations to the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance (LNAA), the chosen charity of the Lincolnshire Wolds Joint Advisory Committee for this programme. Whether you live, work or visit the Lincolnshire Wolds, we hope you never need this service but the LNAA will be by your side, bringing the equivalent of a Hospital Emergency Department to the side of the patient when you need them the most.

Tanya Taylor, Head of Corporate, Community and Events for LNAA said: “We’re incredibly thankful to the Lincolnshire Wolds Joint Advisory Committee for supporting our charity. Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance provides rapid life-saving emergency response to one and a half million people across two and a quarter million acres of Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire and as we receive no Government funding, we rely on the generosity of the public to keep us in the skies and saving lives.”
