Positive Local Plan outcome for the natural environment

Joint working has led to a positive outcome for the natural environment in local planning policy.

The Greater Lincolnshire Nature Partnership, in collaboration with Natural England, the Environment Agency and Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, has been working closely with South Kesteven District Council since 2018 to ensure that the Local Authority's new Local Plan is consistent with national planning policy in regards to the natural environment.

Statement of Common Ground between the environmental organisations and South Kesteven District Council was produced and included agreed changes to the suggested policies. These changes were then presented for consideration by a Secretary of State-appointed Inspector.

All of the amendments suggested in the statement have now been recommended for inclusion in the Local Plan by the Inspector. These modifications will ensure that the new Local Plan fulfills its responsibilities to the natural environment.

Looking to the future the GLNP, Natural England, the Environment Agency and Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust will take a collaborative approach to planning and seek to work closely with all of Greater Lincolnshire's local authorities to ensure the that the area's natural environment receives the protection it deserves.
